Clermont-Ferrand, December 4th, 2020 – The end of 2020 brings plenty of activity for GCK! Having unveiled its presence at the Dakar 2021 and its ambitions for a future hydrogen solution in cross country rallying, GCK is pleased to announce today that it will take on the operation of Charade Circuit in France and manage its transformation towards renewable energies and sustainable mobility.
Charade Circuit is at a turning point in its history. Situated in an exceptionally beautiful setting, the last mountainous circuit in France is undergoing a full transformation. Led by GCK, Charade Circuit is combining its passion for motorsport and respect for the environment to become a frontrunner in meeting future mobility needs.
Already equipped with fast charging stations, the circuit will implement a strong environmental policy based on the optimisation of energy consumption and the development of protected natural areas, as well as local production of green electricity thanks to a new 12-hectare solar farm. The rebirth of the circuit will also involve the digitalisation of its services and new seminar and event offers.
During a press conference held today, the Puy-de-Dôme Departmental Council and GCK announced their ambitions for the Circuit de Charade to become a showcase for eco-mobility in the near future. A strategic choice for the Department of Puy-de-Dôme, it is part of its ecological transition policy initiated in January 2020 and could only be achieved with the support of an experienced operator in the sector that shares the same values.
Established in the region of Savoie and the Puy-de-Dôme Department, GCK is an ecosystem of industrial companies at the forefront of the energy revolution in mobility and green energy supply. The group is heavily involved in motorsport through GCK Motorsport, one of the FIA World Rallycross Championship’s flagship teams since 2018, and GCK Energy, which won tenders launched by the Fédération International de l’Automobile (FIA) a year ago to become the exclusive supplier of electricity and recharging infrastructure for the electric World Rallycross Championship and its junior categories from 2021.
The transformation of Charade Circuit, in line with the global ambition of the GCK group, will put the site on the world map and contribute to the green energy revolution through the evolution of mobility and energy production.
Guerlain CHICHERIT, Chairman of GCK commented: "Charade is a very symbolic circuit that has always made me dream. Having this circuit as a base camp for GCK is absolutely brilliant! It will allow us to develop new technologies and future vehicles and turn it into the greenest circuit in the world. It's a huge challenge that we at GCK love to take on!”
Eric BOUDOT, CEO of GCK: "Charade circuit will be able to benefit from the technological advances made by the different companies in the GCK ecosystem to become a key player in tomorrow’s eco-mobility. For me, as a Clermont-Ferrand resident by adoption, it is an honour and a privilege to be able to participate in this energy transition of the circuit.”
